Discover Sabina in Italy...a hidden gem in the Rome Countryside

If you are looking to visit Italy, but want to see somewhere that is a little off the beaten track, the Sabine hills are perfect. Situated about 60km North-East of Rome, Sabina is a patchwork of olive groves, medieval hilltop villages and quaint towns connected by winding country roads.

With very few tourists, the traditional nature of Sabina means that few people speak English, and you should ideally have access to transport during your stay. An ideal way to discover the area is to join a tour of Sabina with a local from the area. However, Sabina is a beautiful area to explore at your own leisure, with no shortage of lovely places to visit.

The Sabine hills are the perfect location for a ‘slow holiday’, relaxing amongst the stunning scenery. Discover Sabina’s medieval hilltop villages with their breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills, and enjoy long leisurely lunches of fantastic local food and wine.

Steeped in history, Sabina is home to many sites of interest, such as Farfa Abbey, the fortress of Rocchettine and the Forum Novum in Vescovio.

The area is also renowned for the famous Sabina olive oil, so pay a visit to the Sabina olive oil museum and sample local extra virgin olive oils at the olioteca in Farfa. You can even join an olive collection tour!

For an authentic experience with local people, stay in an Agriturismo in the beautiful area that runs from Fara in Sabina to Montebuono via Roccantica.

We hope you will come and discover Sabina; a truly unspoilt and tranquil part of the Italian Countryside.
